The subject of the design is the rehabilitation project of the lower and upper stations of the cableway ascending from Rustaveli Avenue to the Mtatsminda Plateau.
On Rustaveli Avenue, adjacent to the building of the Academy of Sciences, the lower station of the existing cable car is a technically defective building, which needs a major overhaul, as well as the dismantling of a part of the main existing machine building. Instead, a ropeway equipped with modern technology will be built.
The Austrian company "Doppelmayer", which is the world leader in the construction of ropeways, represents a system of 21 gondolas, each gondola has 8 seats. Through this system, it will be possible to move 1100 passengers in 1 hour. The mentioned station will additionally be equipped with an elevator that will serve disabled people and will also serve strollers for young children. At the +0.00 mark, there will be a cash register, turnstiles and auxiliary lockers for service personnel.
The vehicle structure of the lower station will be clad in a modern-looking metal frame that echoes the architecture of the historic oval building's stained glass ornamentation.
The appearance of the historic oval building will be preserved and thoroughly restored.
The rope connecting the upper and lower stations will be placed on five main masts, of which the first, second and fifth masts will be located at the place of the old ropeway masts, and the third and fourth masts will be on the ridge of the Mtatsminda plateau. The length of the rope is about 870 m.
The location of the upper station of the cable car in Mtatsminda Park is unchanged, the historical building has been dismantled and a modern-looking metal construction building will be built in its place, which will cover the main traction cable car system. Decorative lighting and landscaping will also be arranged.
